HRYF believes in educating, inspiring and empowering young people to believe in themselves. To support our mission, each year the HRYF awards student-athlete scholarships to youth who have strong academic grade point averages, demonstrate community service and leadership in school and extracurricular activities.

The Coach Vernon N. Lee, Sr.
Student-Athlete Scholarship
Mr. Lee, affectionately known as “Coach Lee” was an educator and longtime coach for over thirty-five years. Coach Lee dedicated his life to coaching and mentoring student athletes on and off the field. He worked tirelessly to teach athletic skills and life lessons to youth in the Hampton Roads area.
To apply for this scholarship, please do the following:
- Read the Requirements to ensure that you qualify.
- Complete and submit the Scholarship Application form and all required supplemental materials. Applications must be submitted no later than May 22, 2026. Submissions will be accepted via our online application form.
Requirements:
Each applicant must meet the following requirements to be considered for this scholarship:
• Applicant must be a resident of Hampton Roads
• Be a senior athlete (member of a high school team).
• Have a minimum, cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
• Have demonstrated community service, leadership in school and extracurricular activities.
